Agnico Eagle Finland has concluded a two-year collaboration contract with Ski Sports Finland, organizer of the Alpine Ski World Cup Levi. Collaboration with the tourism businesses and various events in Levi is in line with Agnico Eagle’s principles of sustainable development, which, among other things, aim at promoting the social and economic development in the communities touched by its operations.
‘Agnico Eagle is an active member in the local community, and we specifically support local sports and cultural activities and participate in the organization of events held in the regions of Kittilä and Levi. Opening the Alpine season in Levi is a major annual event that we want to attend,’ says Managing Director Jani Lösönen.
‘It is thrilling to discover how attractive alpine skiing and World Cup Levi are considered when it comes to partnership co-operation. Our partners represent the leading operators in their respective fields. Partnership with such top professionals also inspires the competition organizers to innovate new features to develop the world cup event further’, says Marko Mustonen, general secretary & partner sales, World Cup Levi.
Last year, the World Cup Levi attracted 1,700 visitors to the venue, and a television audience of 200 million people from all over the world.
Over the World Cup weekend on 17–18 November, Kittilä Mine will erect a hut close to the hill at the competition venue where guests can learn about gold mining in Kittilä and experience gold panning. (Gold panning is subject to weather conditions as it cannot be done when it is extremely cold.)
Agnico Eagle also sponsors event tickets for all school children in Lapland. The event organizer will send the tickets to the schools.
