The Kittilä Mine Open House event, held on August 18, 2018, attracted about 450 visitors, who arrived from Kittilä, other parts of Finland, and even abroad. In addition to introductions to the departments and the investment projects launched this spring, the program featured eight tours of the mine area.

The geological department invited the visitors to guess the gold content of an ore sample. The correct answer was 5.35 grams in a ton. The winning guess was 5.7 grams, submitted by two separate participants. The winners have been sent a small prize.
