A tradition now for many years, Agnico Eagle Finland’s employees came together once again in 2018 at the annual Christmas party to collect money for donation to a worthy charity. This time, it is the Kittilä parish which will benefit with an updated set of equipment for their village playground.

As always, the Company also added its own donation on top of the sum collected by our employees and it was also decided not to mail out Christmas cards but rather to add that money to the playground project as well. Installation of the new equipment will start in the spring after the snow has melted.

Kaisa Saarijärvi, Agnico Eagle’s Senior Manager, Human Resources for Europe, visited the parish office just before Christmas and met with the vicar, Mika Niskanen, who was delighted by our donation to the parish.

“Family is one of Agnico Eagle’s five core values. Healthy families make a healthy community,” said Kaisa. “More than half of our employees live in Kittilä, so it’s very likely that some of them will be using the renewed playground with their families.”

“The playground next to the church has always been a popular meeting place for families. However, some of the equipment dates back to the 1970s, so it was time to replace the older items. In addition, there will now be outdoor fitness equipment suitable for use by the adults,” says the vicar.
